Namrup located in Dibrugarh, Assam is the first place in India where a fertilizer factory was established. It made use of natural gas to produce urea. At first, it was under the FCI(Fertilizer Corporation of India) but later it was transferred to HFC(Hindustan fertilizer Corporation). Recently it was bifurcated from HFC and renamed as BVFC(Brahmaputra Valley Fertilizer corp. limited).
Namrup also has a petrochemical industry under Assam Petochemicals Limited and a thermal power station under Assam State Electricity Board. All the three industries are running profitably giving employment opportunities to thousands of people.
Namrup is perhaps the most industrialised town in the entire upper Assam area. People of different caste and creed live in perfect harmony in Namrup.
I have been visiting this forum since a long time. Things have gotten pretty quiet with very few inputs.
I am working for the Oil industry in Saudi and am currently based in Bahrain. I left the school in 1985. Strangely most of our batchmates have managed to stay in touch. Battu, Sandeep Bhagwati, Tiken Sharma, Navtej, Pavan etc..etc...Some like Minaz Majumdar (IFS) and AMAL Gogoi. (Inventor and Software Analyst) has strived and really made us proud.
A good number of us are based in Dubai and the remaining few in India. Our school has contributed a lot in our success. God bless HFC Model School.
