Memories of School Curriculam

When we talk of Namrup School, dont we remember the tall Tamul trees, big wide playgrounds, assembly hall, principals office, teachers room, sports, lunch-times when tiffin-man brought our lunches, etc, etc.?

Share what you got on your mind.

i was at namrup this monday (june 26, 2006) after a gap of 12 years. last time i was there on the occasion of our school's silver jubilee (1994). i wonder how many of you were there on that occasion?? but this time i found the tamul trees are all gone. not one of them was there. they are dismantling the old green building that used to house the hm's office and the kg class and the verandah where we used to enjoy our tiffin. the school did not look to sunny. one girl has got a position among top 20 in the assam high school. but three have also failed. the present hm is sr mercy. the wide field where we played football and cricket etc looked like being out of use for long.

That is sad to know that the Tamul trees are no longer there, they did provide a great view.

And while you were there, did you get any pictures of Namrup or Model School?

I have already posted some memories in the memory link. The present post contains more details:

Whenever I think of Namrup and Model School, memories just rush in. Here I shall mention three memories, one incident and two relationships

The first is a story of infatuation. There was this gal in my class and I just could not take my eyes off her. We were in Stdn V, about 10 yrs old, she was (I thought at that time) my first love. I took every opportunity to ride past her house in my bicycle; she too came out of her house when she saw me. But we never interacted apart from the usual hi/hello. Then a twist. I didnt do too well in my half yearly She started giving me the cold shoulder and we drifted apart. Now Phase II. We are in Stdn VII and once again the looks, eyeing each other started. This time I acted in a very mature manner.(unconsciously) I didnt confide my feelings to any of my classmates, only discussed with a junior. This guy advised me to express my feelings (good advice!!!!, wise guy!!!). So one day during lunch time, me and my friend, she and her friend were having lunch.(not together but a little distance part) My friend made some bahana and asked her friend to bring something, leaving me alone with her. For a few minutes I couldnt say anything. But then you know those were the days of romantic hindi movies. Taking inspiration from the movies, I just looked at her and told her ILU. My God, just imagine her reaction!!! She was stunned, surprised, shocked, blushed(all together) and ran away laughing. Was I red faced? My God that was one of the tagra high voltage moments of my life. My hands were shaking, my heart was pounding and I was sweating (it was winter). Had I measured my Blood Pressure at that time, it would have been around 170/100. After that our relationship sort of stabilized but I just didnt know what to do when you are in love apart from saying ILU. I had said ILU and for me thats it, I dont have to do anything more. Subsequently we became very good friends, but I had to move away in 1978. It was a sort of on-off relationship. My batch mates who read this--- dont even try to guess who she was.

The second relationship was a relationship of hate. There was this girl in my class and we hated each other. Whenever I got an opportunity I made it a point to insult her and she did the same to me. Once our class teacher decided to nominate her as class captain. Naturally she asked our opinion, whether any objections? Immediately my hand went up and I said she cannot be our captain!!!! Oh what hate
I met that girl after 22 years in 2005. We are friends now!!!.

Then there was this incident. Myself and Puneet (my batchmate) decided to go to Zeeta Hall for a movie (evening show). So what? The catch== We shall not inform our parents. Just imagine!!!. Both of us were about 11 years old. So we came home, dad was in office, mom busy in meeting ( we knew), I informed my brother and just set off. I think the movie was maa, starring Dharmendra & Hema Malini While returning there was a drizzle and we could reach home at about 9 PM. Just imagine the tornado which hit both of us in our homes that night!!!!
